5 reasons why you should switch to reusable period wear

Making the switch can be daunting at the beginning, we get it, we have been very much conditioned as a society to be repulsed by our own blood so having to be much more hands on with it can be an adjustment. But we’re here to convince you of ALL the benefits to making the switch, because we want to make your periods the best they can be with NORA period wear.
1. They are better for your body.
According to WEN, conventional menstrual products may contain harmful chemicals such as phthalates, bisphenols and pesticides. Some of these chemicals are intentionally added, and others are unwanted contaminants. Brands don’t currently have to list ingredients so it’s hard to know which chemicals are in a product.
You may also seen the introduction of scented sanitary products, yes you read that correctly, because why wouldn’t you want your pad to smell like parma violets?! The problem with this is that the added fragrances or scents can contain allergens, sensitizers, phthalates, neurotoxins and synthetic musks. Synthetic musks can have endocrine disrupting properties (endocrine disrupting means that they mess with or disrupt your hormones, which can impact the rest of the systems in the human body.)
Having these chemicals up close and personal for an average of 4-6 hours at a time, every month, can’t be good for us.
NORA reusable period pads are OEKO-TEX® Certified, this means they contain zero nasties and are perfectly safe to be spending a lot of time near your bits.
2. They save you money.
Sick of spending money on single use? We’ve got you. Our reusable period pads can be washed up to 150 times and last around ten years (if looked after with love and care) – this means you won’t have to spend a penny on period products for TEN YEARS, just one initial purchase of the pads. It is estimated that one person could save 94% of their lifetime spend on disposables by switching to reusables – it’s a no brainer.
3. You can actually be comfortable on your period.
This may come as a surprise, but you don’t have to settle for feeling uncomfortable every single month thanks to your period. Our period pads are slim-line and contour to the body, with outstanding performance when it comes to absorbency. We want you to feel secure on your period as well as comfortable, because we’re nice like that.
4. Better for the planet
Did you know that sanitary products are the 5th most common item found on beaches in Europe? Through no fault of our own, disposables were our only option for a long time, now we can actually do something about the amount of single use plastic we personally use. With an average person using an estimated 12,000 disposable products throughout their lifetime, this equates to a 5 tonnes of waste. Reusable period products are better for you, and better for the planet – it’s a win win situation.
5. Our pads are tried, tested and trusted
Don’t just take our word for it when we say NORA outperforms disposables, we put our products to the test, and the results?
95% Odour reduction
99% Reduction in bacterial growth
No staining – 4.5/5
No bobbly bits – 5/5
(Tests conducted by Intertek, a leading Total Quality Assurance provider and globally recognised testing company)
Our period pads have a unique honeycomb top layer, which is 99% antibacterial for excellent odour prevention. The pads have an absorbent core, which has been tested and has a very high pass rate for absorbency capacity (did we mention they outperform all leading disposable pads and tampons for absorbency already?!).
The waterproof outer layer of our period pads is made from recycled polyester with PUL membrane, which basically means they are excellent for leak protection, which is what you want from your pad.
So, if your still on the fence when it comes to making the switch – head over to our reviews, you can read the experiences of the many people who have tried and tested our period wear.
We are also of course here to help. We know that making a big change isn’t going to happen overnight, you can make the switch as gradually as you need to, with the NORA community supporting you all the way.
